The Years of the Game
I have already been a paramedic for 20 years, giving assistance and pre-hospital medications to sick patients and injured people; the services that people like me offer are very important because with it, the possibility of the patient to recover from his illness increases. Paramedics are available in almost any areas for 24 hours a day and 365 days in a year; they may be working by a commercial, municipal, or probably in a hospital-based medical service group, and still others work with a fire department or an ambulance service. These people normally consist of men and women who are willing to respond within minutes after they have received an emergency call. When a person wants to become a paramedic, he will undergo trainings inside classrooms for several hours, or inside hospitals and ambulance; he will also be taught how to operate ventilation equipments and other devices used in emergencies, as well as applying bandages and splints, and undergoing emt training. I have experienced working in both rural and urban areas and I realized the real value of saving lives when one man walked into the hospital emergency department because of chest pain; not long after walking in, he went into cardiac arrest and so I helped in performing CPR with the doctors and nurses and in administering drugs. Fortunately, the man was able to breathe on his own and so we transferred him to the critical care unit; then the next day, I went into the CCU and I saw a man sitting on his bed and talking to his wife. He stood up and embraced me saying that he is so happy to have lived because of my help yesterday.
